I began working for SaskTel in May 2008 as a Direct Sales Representative in the Saskatoon Customer Relationship Center (CRC). We were responsible for outbound calling to customers – and at first I thought it would be like any telemarketing firm, but I quickly realized that as a SaskTel representative, we had a level of trust, familiarity, and respect with our customers. I was primarily calling to sell and promote our products and services, but also - and just as important - I was building stronger relationships with our customers by going above and beyond to optimize their accounts, give them great service, and in many cases, save them money!
Next, I transitioned to inbound sales. I learned a great deal more about the products and services across all lines of the consumer side of our business- from cellular to Max and internet; as well as more of the systems and processes that make everything run behind the scenes. I loved taking the next call, because I never knew what it was going to be about. I had the privilege to be able to talk with some very interesting people from every single corner of the province, and it was great. I enjoyed the challenge of taking an unsatisfying customer experience and turning it into a positive exchange for that upset customer.
I also had further opportunities to grow my skill sets. I had the opportunity to help out in the SaskTel Store for a few months; I loved the face-to-face aspect of the sales position there. While I was in the store I also helped with their Store-To-Door project, walking around the neighbourhoods to build bridges with our customers by door-knocking and hand shaking (as well as selling). I am currently back at the CRC, enjoying my role in the Mobility Help Desk where the majority of my customers are internal and I help to resolve issues, errors, and interesting situations every day.
