The 2008 award recipient for Fine Arts/Performing Arts is Dallas Fiddler. Dallas is a grade 12 student at E.D. Feehan Collegiate in Saskatoon. At a young age Dallas took pride in his Metis heritage after hearing fiddle music at Back to Batoche days when he is a boy he decided that he wanted to play traditional Métis fiddle and old tyme fiddle tunes.
Since the age of nine he began taking lessons and a few years later he decided to teach himself and he is currently taking lessons from John Arcand the Master of the Metis Fiddle.
Dallas’s passion has him playing, performing and practicing every night. Dallas has performed in many local events such as Louis Riel day, Elders dinners and Folkfest to name a few. Dallas thoroughly enjoys celebrating his Metis culture through his fiddle.
Dallas in 2006 was awarded the National Metis Council Youth Award. He is volunteer of his time, dedicated and well respected young man. He also has his Black belt in Shotoken Karati and has competed at a national level for three years in a row.
Dallas’s passion for playing fiddle continues to grow as he shares his tunes with people of all ages.
