Directory recycling

DirectWest is committed to the responsible use of our environment and natural resources. Environmentally friendly vegetable based inks, along with recyclable paper, are used to produce the SaskTel Phonebooks. In addition, our printer’s direct plate printing process eliminates the need for film processing chemicals. This means SaskTel Phonebooks can be recycled.

The equivalent of twenty semi-trailers of new directories are delivered to customers throughout our province each year. Imagine the space they would take up if every outdated book was discarded into our landfills.

SaskTel's Safety and Environment Department, DirectWest, and the SaskTel Pioneers have developed a program to collect and recycle outdated telephone directories. Most Elementary Schools throughout the province participate in the program by collecting expired directories. SaskTel pays the participating schools and the Telephone Pioneers to pick up the directories and take them to the nearest recycling facility. This helps keep the directories out of our landfills, and teaches our children a valuable lesson on helping the environment.

For more information on this program call 1-877-655-5511.
