Valued volunteer!

April 13, 2017

Laura Quesnel received the Esso Cup Volunteer AAA Female award for 2016/17.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, SaskTel would like to take this opportunity to recognize one of our very own employees who is an active volunteer in her hometown of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

It was an entry point into the world of hockey that Laura continues to be actively involved in to this day.

“I started out as a billet,” said Laura, who is a Service Representative in the SaskTel Store in Prince Albert. “But because my manager at the time was President of the Prince Albert Northern Bears hockey team, it led to more. I became a penalty box volunteer, and the rest is history!”

It’s a job that keeps her busy! She’s currently on the Board of Directors for the Bears. Her duties include organizing game day for the team, gate admission and creating program ads, organizing special events and fundraisers, among many other things.

Laura was recently recognized for her volunteer efforts by the Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA (SFMAAA) Hockey League. Every year, each team in the league submits a name for consideration and the league executive then selects a recipient. Laura was the lucky recipient of the Esso Cup Volunteer AAA Female for 2016-17.

“It truly was an honour to be recognized!” said Laura. “This team and organization has become my second family and to know that I am able to help our team and the girls grow and continue as an organization for the past 11 years gives me a great sense of pride.”

Speaking of pride, although her work at the rink is very different from her career at SaskTel, Laura takes her role as an Ambassador for SaskTel very seriously.

“I’m known in the rinks and various other volunteer activities I take part in (including with the SaskTel Pioneers) as the ‘SaskTel Lady,’” chuckles Laura.  “People I know see me as the ‘go-to’ person for any questions or help with their phones, products and services or to just to relay a message good or bad to SaskTel.”

“SaskTel is a company that takes pride in giving back to our province,” she concluded. “I’m a proud SaskTel employee that takes pride in giving back to my community in Prince Albert!
