SPM Selects SaskTel to Provide Centrex IP

October 2, 2006

SaskTel today announced the successful implementation of SaskTel Centrex IP at Saskatchewan Property Management (SPM) head office at Century Plaza, a renewed downtown office space located in Regina’s former Bay Building on the corner of 12th Avenue and Rose Street.  SaskTel performed structured cabling design and installation, designed and installed a complete data network, and performed professional services to ensure network performance met requirements.

“SPM has taken the lead in adopting technological advances and SaskTel is proud to deliver the flexibility and savings of IP technology to them,” SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson said. “By choosing SaskTel Centrex IP business customers can cut their costs and increase productivity.”

“SaskTel has helped make Century Plaza a leading edge facility in both technology and design with the installation of its Centrex IP service,” SPM Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Information Officer Phil Lambert said.  “SaskTel has successfully delivered an end-to-end solution including the infrastructure, business consulting, data network services and a robust voice application.  They host the service and provide ongoing upgrades and enhancements, which reduces the need for internal customer support and keeps the service at the cutting edge of technology.”

The deployment, based on Nortel's Communication Server 2000, is the first commercial launch of Centrex IP into the Government of Saskatchewan and includes Nortel IP phones as well as Power-over-Ethernet switches.

Using internet protocol technology, SaskTel Centrex IP offers business customers lower rates than traditional Centrex service along with the ability to manage their own telephone moves and changes for a single monthly fee. Long distance calls among a customer’s Centrex IP users are free and users can access the service over their VPN (virtual private network) wherever there is a broadband internet connection.
