SaskTel achieves half a million wireless accesses

December 11, 2008

SaskTel today announced that it has reached 500,000 wireless accesses in Saskatchewan. SaskTel customer Kelly Scott of Melfort activated the 500,000th wireless device on SaskTel’s digital network on November 28, 2008.

To recognize this historic achievement, and to thank Mr. Scott for his business, SaskTel will provide him with one year of free service on the SaskTel Unlimited Talk North America 1500 calling plan, which includes unlimited calling with other SaskTel wireless customers, unlimited long distance evening and weekend minutes to anywhere in Canada or the U.S., plus 1,500 long distance minutes that can be used any time of day to anywhere in Canada or the U.S., a value of $1,980 for the year.

“SaskTel reached this milestone as a result of hard work and a commitment to Saskatchewan that drives the company and its employees,” Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff said. “The people of Saskatchewan have shown their support for SaskTel and we’ll continue to ensure they receive superior coverage and great customer service from their communications company.”

“We’re very grateful to customers like Kelly Scott for their tremendous support over the years,” SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson said. “We owe everything to our customers and we’ll keep working hard to earn their business every single day.”

SaskTel introduced cellular telephone service in 1989, and was the first company to introduce digital cellular service in Saskatchewan in 1998. SaskTel has invested close to $170 million in its digital cellular network, the most extensive in the province. SaskTel digital cellular service is currently available to 96 percent of the population.
