SaskTel Reports 2009 Net Income of $129 Million

April 12, 2010

SaskTel today released its 2009 financial results, highlighted by a net income of $129.0 million and operating revenues of $1.15 billion, up $13.7 million from 2008.  The performance was driven primarily by continued strong customer growth in cellular, Max™ Entertainment Services and internet services, partially offset by reductions in local access and long distance services.

“In 2009, SaskTel achieved very solid financial results while continuing to demonstrate its commitment to the people of Saskatchewan,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Telecommunications. “SaskTel’s primary strategy for growth has been serving Saskatchewan people first by focusing on growing its core business within the province and these financial results are evidence this strategy is working.”

“For the past century, SaskTel has been a leader by offering and maintaining some of the most innovative communications services in Canada for our customers,” said Robert Watson, SaskTel President and CEO. “In 2009, we invested $137 million in our Saskatchewan network to further expand our high speed internet and wireless coverage across the province, invested in a new Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS)/High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) wireless network and expanded the Next Generation Access Infrastructure Program to provide Max Entertainment Services to 14 more communities.”
