SaskTel continues to improve High Speed Internet access and speed in rural SK

June 25, 2014

Today SaskTel announced residents of Paynton will now be able to enjoy the benefits of  SaskTel High Speed Internet service as they can now subscribe to SaskTel’s High  Speed Basic (Level 2) Internet service that gives download speeds of up to 5  Mbps (megabits per second) or High Speed Advanced Internet service that  provides speeds of up to 10 Mbps download.

SaskTel also announced that the following 29 communities will now have  access to even faster High Speed Internet service with the launch of High Speed  Advanced, offering download speeds of up to 10 Mbps:  Aberdeen, Asquith, Balcarres, Bengough, Cabri,  Craik, Cupar, Cut Knife, Duck Lake, Dundurn, Eatonia, Elrose, Hanley, Herbert,  Kyle, Lafleche, Midale, Montmartre, Nokomis, Paradise Hill, Pierceland,  Ponteix, Quill Lake, Radisson, Rockglen, Springside, St. Brieux, Turtleford and  Wawota.

First introduced at  the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities 2013 annual conference,  this announcement is part of SaskTel’s long-term strategy to both increase  access to higher Internet speeds to over 200 existing DSL served communities,  but also  to continue expanding the DSL  network into over 50 rural communities that have not yet had access to this  technology.

“Rural Saskatchewan  continues to experience unprecedented growth,” said Kevin Doherty, Minister Responsible  for SaskTel. “By providing these communities with access to even higher speed Internet,  our government is opening up doors for entrepreneurs that want to live outside of our major centres but still need access to how business is done in the world  today. Those businesses simply cannot work with old fashioned dial-up Internet.”

SaskTel is investing  $1.2 million in the expansion that will result in enhanced ability for both  private customers using the Internet for home entertainment and business  customers doing work on a provincial, national and international scale.

SaskTel High Speed  Internet services allows simultaneous phone and online access, unlimited  Internet access and downloading, spam and email virus filtering,  around-the-clock helpdesk support and installation – all for one low price.
