SaskTel investing $2.1 million in wireless enhancements along highway 18

June 1, 2016

SaskTel today announced it will be investing $2.1 million in enhancements to the wireless network along a stretch of highway 18 approximately 130 km long from Estevan to the Saskatchewan/Manitoba border.  These enhancements will increase the coverage footprint along the highway and improve service to the adjacent communities.

“SaskTel understands that people want to be connected at all times.  Enhanced wireless services helps meet that desire for people travelling in the area and residents alike” said Jim Reiter, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “SaskTel has invested and will continue to invest a tremendous amount in rural Saskatchewan.”

In addition, SaskTel is enhancing the LTE network in Estevan, which will increase the LTE capacity by approximately 25% as well as improve LTE in-building coverage.  SaskTel expects to complete all of these enhancements by the end of summer this year.

“When we make investments to expand and improve our networks, we make them with our customers in mind,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “That is why we are pleased to enhance our wireless network along this stretch of highway 18 and Estevan.  As the leading Saskatchewan-based communications provider, we continue to make important investments throughout all parts of the province where our customers – our neighbours – live and work.”

In May, SaskTel announced a commitment to invest $331 million in capital in   Saskatchewan in 2016-2017 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021.  These investments will ensure that Saskatchewan will continue to receive some of the best communications services in the world including maxTV, Internet, data, and future IP-based services through industry leading 4G/LTE and infiNET networks.
