SaskTel plans to enhance its High Speed Fusion Internet network in rural Saskatchewan

July 20, 2016

SaskTel today announced that it will be making enhancements to its High Speed Fusion Internet network in a number of rural areas in the province.

SaskTel will be installing additional High Speed Fusion equipment on towers that serve rural areas around Baildon, Buffalo Pound, Cochin, Edenwold, Estevan, Lanigan, and Melville. These enhancements will relieve congestion for existing Fusion customers as well as offer added capacity for new customers in these rural areas. In addition, SaskTel will be expanding High Speed Fusion Internet service to the rural areas around Greenstreet and Witchekan. These latest enhancements are expected to be completed by the end of October.

“Our government understands that having access to the latest technology is important for all of our residents, including those in rural Saskatchewan,” said Jim Reiter, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. ”Investments in world-class communications services like this are critical to Saskatchewan’s ability to compete and prosper in the national and global economies.”

“This latest investment in rural Saskatchewan will not only improve Fusion service for existing customers in these areas but it will also make Fusion available to new customers,” Said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “With Fusion Internet, our rural customers have access to a faster and more reliable service that allows them to connect with the outside world in more a meaningful way.”

SaskTel High Speed Fusion Internet is available for $79.95/month and offers download speeds of up to 5 Mbps, 50 GB of monthly usage, 24/7 helpdesk support, and spam and email virus filtering.

In May, SaskTel announced a commitment to invest $331 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2016-2017 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021. These investments will ensure that Saskatchewan will continue to receive some of the best communication and entertainment services in the world including maxTV™, Internet, data, and future IP-based services through industry leading 4G/LTE and infiNET networks.
