EDMONTON – Canada West basketball is coming to a television near you, as the conference is proud to partner with SaskTel to broadcast both the women’s and men’s championship games this weekend.

Following a successful partnership with SaskTel in the fall, which saw 15 Canada West football games broadcast across Western Canada, the conference is excited to bring even more university action to television.

“We are excited to partner with Canada West to broadcast the men’s and women’s basketball championships,” said Doug Burnett, Acting SaskTel President and CEO. “We have been a long-time supporter and avid fan of amateur athletics in our province and we are happy to bring the pinnacle of university basketball to our customers and show off these talented athletes.”

Both the Regina-Saskatchewan women’s championship game (7 p.m. CST / Friday, March 2), along with the Alberta-Calgary men’s title game (7:30 p.m. MST / Saturday, March 3) will be available live on SaskTel maxTV (348 HD and 48 SD) and TELUS Optik TV (998 HD and 9998 SD).

This weekend’s games are part of Canada West’s ongoing strategy to showcase student-athletes through innovative partnerships aimed at mutually enhancing each party’s brand and consumer base.

“Canada West is thrilled to be bringing our basketball championship games to television, building on the success of the Canada West Football Showcase in the fall,” said CW VP Marketing and Communications Adrienne Healey.

“SaskTel has been a tremendous partner and this shows their continued commitment to showcasing our outstanding student-athletes.”

Televising the conference championship games marks a new chapter for Canada West, as the conference abandoned the existing final four tournament format for the 2017-18 season in favour of a single-game championship, which guaranteed a host playing for the CW banner on their home court.

In addition to watching the conference championship games on SaskTel and TELUS, both contests can also be viewed online by tuning into Canada West TV – the official streaming home of the conference.
