2008 news releasesSaskTel celebrates its centennial with new scholarships and customer celebrationsJune 12, 2008 SaskTel celebrates its 100th anniversary today with the launch of the SaskTel Centennial Scholarship program, a province-wide radio contest open to all Saskatchewan residents and in-store celebrations and prize giveaways. “SaskTel is a home grown company, built by Saskatchewan people and Saskatchewan ingenuity over 100 years,” Minister of Crown Corporations Ken Cheveldayoff said. “On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, I wish to congratulate SaskTel and its employees for a century of industry leadership and superior customer service.” “We sincerely thank the people of Saskatchewan for their loyalty and support over the past 100 years,” SaskTel President and CEO Robert Watson said. “Our Centennial Scholarships will recognize and support Saskatchewan’s future leaders while reflecting our commitment to good corporate citizenship. We look forward to serving the people of Saskatchewan, and all of our valued customers, for many years to come.” The SaskTel Centennial Scholarship will recognize student achievements in a unique way. Open to residents of Saskatchewan, Centennial Scholarships of $2008 each will be given to three post-secondary students who demonstrate excellence in a number of areas including community involvement, leadership and academic achievement. A fourth scholarship will be awarded to a qualifying SaskTel employee or family member. In addition to the $2008 scholarship, each winning student will have the opportunity to choose an eligible Saskatchewan-based non-profit organization, event or project to receive a matching $2008 grant from SaskTel. The application deadline is September 15, 2008. Full eligibility criteria and an online application will be available at www.sasktel.com. SaskTel is inviting customers to join in the celebrations. A Centennial Radio Contest, which is open to all Saskatchewan residents, will begin June 16 and will run across the province for four weeks. SaskTel will be giving away a total of 36 Blackberry® Pearl™ 8100 Smartphones, as well as daily prizes including Saskatchewan Roughriders ticket vouchers and SaskTel Saskatchewan Jazz Festival tickets. Customers are also invited to the ten SaskTel Stores across the province for free cake and coffee from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. today. And today through Saturday, June 14, customers can enter to win great prizes, including TVs, digital picture frames and cordless phones.
