SaskTel E-mail Protection Service - features

Virus blocking

SaskTel scans all inbound and outbound e-mail for viruses, using up to three different anti-virus engines to ensure that messages are safe.

Spam filtering

Spam is detected using a custom blacklist, fingerprinting, bait mailboxes and sophisticated rules-based heuristics technology incorporating more than 20,000 unique rules.

Phishing blocking

SaskTel blocks phishing attacks by applying several hundred spam filtering rules targeted specifically at phishing techniques. SaskTel routinely blocks more than 400,000 phishing attempts each day.

Directory Harvest Attack (DHA) Prevention

Typical e-mail security software may assess message content or the source IP address of an e-mail message, but it can't secure SMTP connections. SaskTel Perimeter Manager automatically stops Denial of Service (DoS) and Directory Harvest Attacks (DHA) that can sap up to 30% or more of your e-mail server transaction capacity as servers attempt to respond to these brute force probes.

Encryption

SaskTel supports the ability to secure e-mail transmission based on the TLS protocol while at the same time filtering messages to block spam, viruses and threats as well as prevent e-mail content policy violations. Processing more than 30 million secure message connections every day, SaskTel provides the world's largest encrypted e-mail network, supporting secure e-mail transmission that is automatic, easy to use and cost-effective.

Legal and regulatory

SaskTel not only blocks inbound spam and viruses, it also filters outbound e-mail content according to your policies. This gives you ultimate control to safeguard and protect valuable proprietary or private information, while assuring that potentially abusive or offensive messages cannot be transmitted through your e-mail system

Content filtering

SaskTel e-mail security managed service provides both inbound and outbound e-mail policy enforcement capabilities. Outbound e-mail filtering by SaskTel enables organizations to scan outbound messages for viruses and apply content policies, protecting both customers and partners and ensuring that corporate policies regarding appropriate use are observed. Inbound anti-virus scanning prevents viruses from entering a corporate network through the gateway. Outbound anti-virus scanning prevents the spread of viruses to customers and partners. Outbound content filtering also prevents confidential or sensitive data from leaving the enterprise network and entering the hands of competitors.

Attachment filtering

While inbound attachment management reduces the resources required to process unwanted attachments (such as large MP3 music files), outbound attachment filtering can be used to prevent sensitive or confidential file types from leaving the enterprise.

Comprehensive reporting

This provides real-time viewing and reporting of inbound and outbound e-mail traffic offering unmatched visibility for both technicians and executives that can be customized to your particular environment. Real-time, daily, weekly and monthly reports help you analyze and track e-mail traffic and trends to improve overall performance and spot issues before they evolve into major problems.

Disaster recovery

SaskTel provides disaster recovery and business continuity measures to ensure maximum availability of the enterprise's e-mail system. In the event of a customer server outage, SaskTel will spool e-mails until the customer's e-mail servers come back online and messages can be delivered. Spooling ensures that no messages are lost or bounced back to senders.

Monitoring and alerting

SaskTel delivers control and visibility over the entire enterprise e-mail system, not just a single server or single geographic location. Real-time dashboard monitoring and alerting from a Web-based console provides continuous control and insight into all e-mail traffic into and out of the enterprise.

Load balancing

Because SaskTel enables you to manage the delivery of filtered e-mail to your servers; you gain better load balancing control for incoming e-mail messages and preventing server overloads. In the event of connectivity errors, or server outages, SaskTel alerts e-mail administrators immediately and stores incoming e-mail until servers are ready to accept e-mail messages again.
