BlackBerry - what is tethered data?

EV-DO-capable BlackBerry™devices are able to act as a tethered modem between your laptop and the 1X network. After the BlackBerry device is plugged into the laptop, the laptop will access the 1X network as if it had a Sierra AirCard or Kyocera Passport installed. This data usage is billed per MB based on which BlackBerry plan you subscribe to.

If you use a tethered BlackBerry to access the wireless network on your laptop, the usage will not come out of the BlackBerry browser data included in your rate plan. For example, if you subscribe to a $25 (4MB) BlackBerry plan and use your BlackBerry as a tethered modem to access 10MB of data, you will still have 4MB of data usage left with your BlackBerry browser.

Tethered data is available wherever EV-DO capable devices are able to roam. Refer to the Mobility Roaming page for more information.

Tethered Data Software
This software makes it easier for you to use your BlackBerry device as a tethered modem. Run this software to configure your laptop. Then, every time you connect your BlackBerry to your laptop, run the application and you will have a wireless connection at EV-DO speed. If the phone rings, leave the USB cable connected and answer it. When you hand up, your data connection will carry on.
