Our history

  • The SaskTel Carrier Services Group was established in 1993 as a result of a regulatory change set forth by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).

  • Prior to the 1993 CRTC directive, when SaskTel was under provincial regulation, Carrier Services was known as the Interconnect Operations Group. This internal department served a similar purpose to Carrier Services, but was in place largely to support competitor long distance termination and trunking arrangements.

  • After the CRTC directive, this group was renamed and expanded to handle all wholesale applications and to ensure the confidentiality requirements of the entire wholesale segment are maintained.

  • SaskTel Carrier Services Group assists competing carriers requiring SaskTel services in Saskatchewan while maintaining the confidentiality of competitive information.

Our relationship with Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs)

  • CLECs are companies which have been certified by the CRTC as providers of local exchange services.

  • Before a CLEC can offer any local exchange services in Saskatchewan, SaskTel must verify the provider meets the proper requirements and is registered with the CRTC as a CLEC in Saskatchewan.

  • When a qualified CLEC wishes to pursue business operations, all of its interconnection inquiries, negotiations and service agreements within Saskatchewan are the responsibility of SaskTel Carrier Services Group. This covers all modes of service operation from essential services to competitive tariffed services that they wish to subscribe to.
