Artist Interpretation

This painting is about the combining of different elements of Saskatchewan; the people, the city and the prairie landscape. This combination or juxtaposition creates visual relationships not present in a traditional landscape. Ultimately, a 'new' landscape is created by the mixing of these elements. The painting grid is structured to have central nodes. These nodes consist of nine squares where people are represented. The people become intersections for vertical and horizontal lines. These lines of 'communication' give an impression of expanding out and beyond the canvas. At the same time the landscape and its horizon draws the viewer's focus back into the painting. This creates a whole new image of abstract colours and shapes which communicate a dynamic connectivity not previously seen. The result is an exciting future derived from these new associations of people, land and city
