EV-DO Rev A network
Enjoy even FASTER wireless data speeds thank to the new EV-DO (Evolution - Data Optimised) Rev A network. The EV-DO Rev A network lets you use wireless data services such as web browsing, content downloads, steaming video, streaming radio, email and instant messaging at speeds close to residential high speed connections.
| |
Coverage |
EV-DO Rev A coverage is available in Regina, Saskatoon, Kindersley, Kerrobert, Meadow Lake, Unity, White City, and Martensville.
Coverage is also provided in Canada through roaming agreements with other carriers. For complete details, see Roaming.
|
| |
Speed |
Supports average upload speeds between 350 kbps and 550 kbps and peak download speeds between 2000 kbps and 2300 kbps |
| |
Backward compatibility |
EV-DO devices are all backward compatible to the 1X network within Canada only.
Nearly all 1X-ready devices are fully functional in all technologies across the SaskTel network (analog, PCS 1.9 GHz and 800 MHz). |
| |
Packet-switched |
Data is transferred in packets. Network resources are only used when these packets are being sent back and forth.
This provides you with cost efficiency, as you only pay for the data that is transmitted and not for "idle" time (e.g. reading information) while connected to the network. |
|
| |
Always-on |
When the connection is idle (data is not being actively transferred), a virtual connection to the 1X network is maintained. Resources are freed so that voice calls or text messages can be processed. When you are ready to resume the data session, you can re-engage the network connection immediately. |
|
| |
Reliable and stable |
EV-DO Rev A is based on SaskTel's existing proven and stable 1X and CDMA networks. You have the peace of mind that your information will be wirelessly delivered without fail. |
| |
Additional device functionality |
EV-DO Rev A combines both data and voice into one device and allows for up to a 50% increase in voice call capacity. Customers needing both voice and data have fewer devices to carry. Smarphone's and most wireless modems can be used as voice devices. |
What is a kilobyte (KB) or megabyte (MB) of data?
EV-DO data (being packet-based) is billed by volume, not time. The table below provides examples of applications and related sizes (volume of data).
