Travelling with your device

You can take your SaskTel wireless device with you wherever you travel. Get virtually seamless digital coverage throughout North America with our roaming partnerships. As of February 5, 2013, SaskTel began sending text messages to 4G and 4G LTE customers travelling outside of Canada and roaming on a foreign network. These text messages are automatically generated to notify customers that they are roaming on a foreign network and that roaming charges will apply. There is no charge for this notification text message.

Canadian Roaming

Canadian roaming refers to using your phone anywhere in Canada outside of Saskatchewan.

Airtime Charges

Voice mail

  • When retrieving messages, you'll be billed standard airtime charges and long distance according to your wireless service plan instead of being charged the rates associated with your Wireless Voice Mail package.

Long Distance Charges

  • You may also be charged long distance charges, depending on your wireless voice plan, where you are and where you are calling.
  • Calls made to, or received from, a Canadian or U.S. landline or wireless phone are $0.25 per minute if you are not on a Long Distance plan.

Text Messaging Charges

  • Incoming text messages are free.
  • Sent text messages are charged $0.20 per message. If you subscribe to a Text Messaging package, the fee is included in your subscription.
  • Messages sent from within Canada to a customer of an international wireless carrier will be charged at $0.20 per message in addition to regular text messaging rates.
  • Pricing excludes third party shortcodes such as voting, horoscopes, quizzes, etc. to which regular rates apply.

Data Charges

  • Your data plan includes a set amount of data that can be used Canada-wide. Any usage in excess of this monthly amount will be billed to you according to your plan's additional data rate.

We rely on other wireless carriers to provide us with the details of the calls you make outside the province. Therefore, billing may be delayed. Charges for calls made outside of the province are calculated based on the rate plan and minutes available at the time the call information is received from the wireless carrier that manages the roaming area.

U.S. Roaming (4G & CDMA)

When you travel to the U.S., you’ll receive a text message to let you know you’re roaming on a U.S. network and to provide you with the standard retail roaming rates for voice, text and data usage. See Roaming notification text message for details.

Airtime Charges

When you are travelling anywhere in the United States, calls made to or received from a Canadian or United States landline or wireless phone are $0.95 per minute. With no additional charges for U.S taxes or daily surcharges, you'll always know what to expect on your bill. You only pay for U.S. roaming minutes that you use. These minutes are billed according to the calling plan you're on.

Voice Mail

Retrieving voice mail messages from your device while roaming in the U.S. will be billed $0.95 per minute when retrieving messages.

If you subscribe to a Travel Add-On, you will be billed based on the overage rate per minute for that particular add-on.

Data

U.S. Roaming rates specific to your data plan apply and range from $3/MB - $10/MB. Data usage is not deducted from the data included in your plan.

International Roaming in CDMA coverage

  • If you have a CDMA phone, you maybe be able to roam in countries that still have CDMA coverage, such as Mexico and the Caribbean.
  • Calls are $0.95 per minute, including long distance and airtime.
  • Sent text messages are charged $0.20 per message. If you subscribe to a text messaging package or have text messaging included in your plan, the fee is included in your subscription.
  • Messages sent from outside of Canada to a customer of an international wireless carrier will be charged an additional $0.20 per message international fee over and above the regular text messaging rates.
  • There is no international data roaming on CDMA.

International Roaming in 4G coverage

When you enter a new country, you’ll receive a text message notification letting you know the standard retail roaming rates for voice, text and data usage for the country you’re in. See Roaming notification text message for details.

4G Calling

  • Per minute rates range between $1.99 and $6.99 per minute depending on the country you are roaming in.
  • Airtime and long distance are charged per minute and billed to your SaskTel wireless account in Canadian funds.
  • Charges for "premium" calls while roaming, such as vote lines, information and directory assistance service, etc, are extra.
  • You only pay for the roaming minutes that are used, and these minutes are never deducted from the free minutes included in your plan.

4G Data

  • $15.00 per MB
  • Data is charged in 10 KB increments to your SaskTel wireless account in Canadian funds.
  • Any data used while in 4G coverage is not deducted from the data included in your regular data plan.
  • Avoid data roaming charges by using Wi-Fi networks to access data for no charge or a nominal fee. See Accessing Wi-Fi on your smartphone or Accessing Wi-Fi on your tablet for instructions on connecting to Wi-Fi.

4G Text Messaging

  • Incoming text messages are free.
  • Text messaging in the Caribbean is charged at the regular rate ($0.20 per message, or as part of your text messaging package) and is not charged the additional international fee.
  • Messages sent while roaming in international locations (outside Canada, the U.S., and the Caribbean) are charged a $0.65 fee in addition to regular text messaging charges.
  • Messages sent from outside of Canada to a customer of an international wireless carrier will be charged an additional $0.20 per message international fee over and above the regular text messaging rates.
  • Pricing excludes third party shortcodes such as voting, horoscopes, quizzes, etc. to which regular rates apply.

Voice Mail (CDMA & 4G)

  • Regular voice mail charges apply.
  • When you access your voice mail, the per-minute charge for the country you are in will apply, which includes both airtime and long distance.

Billing (CDMA & 4G)
