Sending and receiving text messages

Sending Text Messages
There are three ways to send messages to digital cellular Text Messaging subscribers:
|
Anyone can send a text message to a Text Messaging subscriber using their own email servicejust as they would send a message to any email address. Each digital cellular phone with a subscription to Text Messaging has its own email address; here's what your Text Messaging email address looks like:
(the ten digit digital cellular phone number)@sms.sasktel.com
E.g., 3065551212@sms.sasktel.com
(Do not enter a hyphen (-) anywhere in the phone number.)
- Anyone can send a text message to a Text Messaging subscriber, or a group of Text Messaging subscribers, through this website. Our send a text message service provides instructions and a form for users to send their message.
-
Senders who have a two-way messaging capable phone can send messages to SaskTel text messaging subscribers, and most other cellular providers' text messaging subscribers throughout the world. Digital cellular phones, while varying widely in the instructions for and methods of sending text messages, have a fairly standard procedure for accessing the feature:
- The sender must access the text messaging mode on their digital cellular phone, usually an "envelope" option.
- The sender then chooses the "send/create a new message" option from the menu displayed.
- The sender enters the receiver's 10-digit cellular number (e.g. 3065551234). Do not enter a hyphen (-) anywhere in the phone number.
International Text Messaging
How to send a text message to a number outside of Canada (even if you are in the same country as the person you are sending the message to):
- On your cell phone or mobile device, go to the main menu, then find the ’Message or ’Mail’ function, and indicate OK.
- Select ’Text Message’ or ’New Message’, and indicate OK.
- In the ’Address’ or ’Send To’ or ’Phone Number’ screen enter (011 + country code + area code + number you are calling) and indicate OK. Do not include any spaces or hyphens.
- In the ’Message’ screen, enter your message using the letter on the keypad, and then indicate OK.
- Press the ’Send Message’ key and your message will be sent.
Note:
Not all wireless carriers will have services compatible with SaskTel. As a result, we cannot guarantee that all international text messages will be delivered. Messages sent to phones that are roaming away from their home network, or to numbers that have recently been switched to a different service provider may also experience delivery problems. This is a limitation of the International delivery network, not of the SaskTel cellular network, and we regret any inconvenience this may cause.
Receiving Text Messages
Different models of digital phones have different ways of letting you know that you have a new text message waiting to be read.

There are also different ways of retrieving your messages, depending on the phone you have.
The most common indicators and procedure for message retrieval are provided below. If they do not work for you, consult your phone's documentation or contact your SaskTel dealer.
New message indicators
Your digital phone may indicate that you have a new text message waiting in one or more of the following ways:
- an audible beep
- a graphic of an envelope displayed on the screen
- text displayed on the screen
Message retrieval
The most common method of retrieving a new text message is to press the button on your digital phone that displays a graphic of an envelope, then follow the prompts displayed on the screen.
Digital cellular phones can receive messages up to 200 characters in length. This maximum automatically includes the sender's return email address, which varies in length with individual email services.
SaskTel's digital cellular server will hold messages for three days, after which they will be automatically deleted.
