SaskTel brings Back to Batoche cellular service with a new permanent tower to serve the area

July 18, 2014

SaskTel today announced the completion of a new permanent cellular tower that is fully operational and will serve the 2014 Back to Batoche festival attendees, as well as the communities of St. Isidore-de-Bellevue First Nation, One Arrow First Nation, Batoche, and surrounding residents.

“We are committed to building and powering the largest, fastest and most complete wireless network in the Province,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. We are equally invested in bringing rural and remote locations with the same high quality technology enjoyed in the urban centres, and with partners such as Huawai, we continue to expand the 4G network that already serves approximately 98% of Saskatchewan.”

“We are extremely proud to have partnered with SaskTel on delivering a cellular tower to the Batoche National Historic Site and surrounding region. Having access to wireless technologies at the Historic Site and in the local area, will further help to enable new technologies and services that support the annual festival and further promote Métis culture and heritage" said Sean Yang, President of Huawei Canada.

The 4G network provides increased bandwidth with download speeds approximately four times faster than existing speeds (up to 21 megabits per second). It is also compatible with more than 80 per cent of all networks around the world.
