SaskTel today announced they have been named one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. for the fourth consecutive year.

This year's list of winners includes employers from across Canada that offer exceptional workplace diversity and inclusiveness programs. The competition examines a range of diversity initiatives covering five major employee groups: women; members of visible minorities; persons with disabilities; Aboriginal peoples; and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered/transsexual (LGBT) peoples.

“SaskTel has maintained a long term focus on employing a workforce that is as diverse as the customers we serve,” said Doug Burnett, Vice-President – Human Resources and Corporate Services. “We are proud to receive this recognition because we have built a culture that supports and values SaskTel’s ongoing efforts to achieve a diversely representative workforce.”

SaskTel was recognized for a variety of initiatives they have developed in an effort to attract and retain employees from a rich variety of backgrounds.  Some of the highlights of SaskTel’s diversity efforts include, the formation of a hiring strategy to attract and retain Aboriginal employees, a supported employment program and partnership with Saskatchewan Abilities Council to increase employment opportunities for the intellectually disabled, a variety of employee support groups for Aboriginals, visible minorities, persons with disabilities and younger workers and a dedicated corporate Diversity department.

In October 2013 Mediacorp named SaskTel one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for the 14th consecutive year and, earlier this month, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers for the 8th year straight year.
