Moose Jaw is the largest fibre community in Western Canada

September 2, 2016

SaskTel is excited to announce it has reached a major milestone in its Fibre To The Premise (FTTP) program.  SaskTel has completed the residential build for its fibre network in Moose Jaw, which makes Moose Jaw the largest fibre community in Western Canada.

Since beginning construction of the fibre network in Moose Jaw in 2013, SaskTel has invested approximately $30 million to convert the city to SaskTel’s infiNET network.  The portion of the new fibre network serving businesses is 95% complete and the remainder will be complete by the end of November.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress of our fibre deployment in Moose Jaw and the fact that Moose Jaw is now the largest fibre community in Western Canada,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “We feel that our infiNET network is one of the most advanced anywhere in the world today and will be in the future to come.”

InfiNET provides amazingly fast internet speeds – up to 260 Mbps – the fastest available in Saskatchewan and maxTV in HD on up to 7 set top boxes in the home.

InfiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) Program, a $670 million dollar investment to deploy fibre optics directly to homes and upgrade the broadband network in the nine largest urban centers in the province, Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford and Prince Albert.

Added Styles, “Now that the construction of our infiNET network is complete in Moose Jaw, our focus will turn to finishing the conversion of SaskTel and non-SaskTel customers to the infiNET network over the coming weeks.”
