SaskTel expanding LTE in Southwest Saskatchewan
SaskTel expanding LTE in Southwest Saskatchewan
SaskTel today announced that it has expanded LTE coverage to more than 50 towers throughout Southwestern Saskatchewan. This expansion is the first wave of towers to be upgraded to LTE as part of SaskTel’s commitment to bring LTE to 99% of the population of Saskatchewan by April 2017.
“Our government is committed to investing in the future success of this province,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “Today’s announcement is a positive step forward that will improve wireless service for a large number of people in our province.”
“This expansion illustrates our commitment to delivering world class communication and entertainment services to our customers,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “As the leading Saskatchewan-based communications provider, we will continue to make important investments in our networks that will benefit all parts of the province.”
With LTE, SaskTel customers have the freedom to watch HD movies, stream music, share pictures and videos, and play games all at speeds that are up to 10 times faster than on 4G. In addition, the deployment of LTE will lay the groundwork for future network enhancements, such as the introduction Voice over LTE (VoLTE).
The expansion of LTE is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over $300 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2016/17 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021.
