infiNET available to over 200,000 Saskatchewan homes

June 26, 2017

Today SaskTel announced that infiNET™, Saskatchewan’s fastest fibre optics network, is available to more than 200,000 homes and businesses throughout Saskatchewan.

Since the project’s inception in 2011, SaskTel has made great strides expanding infiNET throughout the province. To date, construction is complete in Estevan, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert, Swift Current, and Weyburn. In addition, progress continues to be made in the province’s two largest cities as 55% of homes in Regina and 68% of homes in Saskatoon have access to infiNET.

“It’s remarkable that SaskTel has been able to bring this leading-edge technology to so many people in our province in such a relatively short period of time,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “In today’s digital age, infiNET will prove to be an essential tool that will help the people and businesses of our province succeed today and well into the future.”

“Today’s announcement marks a major milestone for SaskTel and the people of Saskatchewan,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “As we eclipse the 200,000 mark we are more than 60% complete our goal to bring infiNET to all the residents of Saskatchewan’s nine largest urban centres. It’s taken a monumental amount of planning and effort to get this far and although a significant amount of the project still remains, I am incredibly pleased with how far we’ve come.”

infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s ambitious twelve year, $670 million Fibre-To-The-Premises program that will bring fibre directly to homes and businesses by upgrading SaskTel’s broadband network in the nine largest urban centres in the province. In 2017, SaskTel will also bring infiNET to Rosthern as a pilot project to determine the feasibility of deploying infiNET in smaller communities throughout the province.

Beyond the immediate benefits of faster Internet speeds for consumers, this network enhancement will have added benefits in the future. As demands for more bandwidth and faster speeds increase, infiNET provides SaskTel with a flexible platform that can quickly grow to meet its customer’s needs.

infiNET provides amazingly fast speed – up to 260 megabits per second (Mbps) downloading and 60 Mbps uploading – the fastest available in Saskatchewan.

  • Download and upload data, movies, music, and more in a fraction of the time
  • Stream HD movies, play games, and video chat without freezing, pixelation, or dropped connections
  • Get unlimited downloading with no overage fees

infiNET offers HD programming and digital TV recording delivered to every maxTV set-top box in a home.

  • Watch HD on up to 7 TVs
  • Record up to 4 programs simultaneously with maxTV PVR

The Fibre-To-The-Premises program is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over $300 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2017/18 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021. Investments like these will ensure that Saskatchewan will continue to receive some of the best communication and entertainment services in the world.
