SaskTel completes LTE expansion and boasts largest LTE network in Province

March 30, 2017

SaskTel today announced it has completed its project to expand LTE coverage throughout Saskatchewan.  SaskTel’s wireless LTE network is the largest LTE network in Saskatchewan and now covers 99% of the residents in the province.  In March, SaskTel capped off the project by expanding LTE coverage for the first time to 79 towers that serve rural areas and communities across Saskatchewan (see the full list of upgraded towers in Appendix A).

“The government of Saskatchewan understands the importance of providing advanced communications services to all parts of the province,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “The expanded reach of SaskTel’s LTE network is a positive step forward that will have a significant impact on the social and economic development of our residents living in rural Saskatchewan”.

“Since announcing this project in June of 2016, we have worked diligently to expand LTE to more than 400 towers that serve rural Saskatchewan making our LTE network the largest in Saskatchewan by a wide margin,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “We know that our customers want access to fast and reliable communications services wherever they may go and with the completion of this project their desire has become a reality throughout much of Saskatchewan.”

The expansion of LTE is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest over $300 million in capital in Saskatchewan in 2016/17 and $1.4 billion through 2016-2021.  Investments like these will ensure that Saskatchewan will continue to receive some of the best communication and entertainment services in the world.  With LTE, SaskTel customers have the freedom to watch HD movies, stream music, share pictures and videos, and play games all at speeds that are up to 10 times faster than on 4G.

Added Styles, “Now that we’ve completed the expansion of LTE our focus shifts to future network enhancements, such as the introduction of Voice over LTE (VoLTE), which we expect to begin before the end of 2017”.
