SaskTel today announced it has received approval to proceed with purchasing a Tier III Data Centre in White City for $10.7 million. The addition of the Tier III Data Centre in Regina will significantly increase SaskTel’s Data Centre capacity. SaskTel currently has a total of 41,000 square feet in 7 different Data Centre locations with 4 locations in Regina and 3 in Saskatoon. The new facility will add 10,000 square feet of Data Centre space.

“SaskTel has been providing data centre services to external customers for over 15 years and they have become core to SaskTel’s business as more and more companies seek high security and high availability locations to operate their mission critical information technology functions,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “Due to market demand, SaskTel projects that it will run out of Data Centre space in Regina in three years and in the next year we would need to start the building process of a new Tier III Data Centre. Acquiring a fully functional Tier III Data Centre in Regina significantly reduces SaskTel’s exposure in the market and eliminates the time and effort required for new construction.”
