SaskTel reminds CDMA customers of network shutdown

January 11, 2017

SaskTel is reminding its CDMA customers that effective July 5, 2017, it will be turning down its Code division multiple access (CDMA) network and CDMA devices will no longer function.

CDMA wireless technology is being phased out across the world and CDMA devices and network equipment availability are becoming more costly to repair and difficult to source. As is common across the industry with outdated technology, SaskTel’s roaming partners have confirmed they will be shutting down or beginning to decommission their respective CDMA networks on January 31, 2017. This will result in SaskTel customers losing coverage when leaving Saskatchewan if they continue using their CDMA device.

SaskTel customers can upgrade to a 4G or 4G LTE phone for as low as $0 to take advantage of its superior 4G or 4G LTE network which offers faster speeds, more capable devices, broader coverage, new features and more.
