SaskTel continues to improve internet access and speed in rural and northern Saskatchewan

November 8, 2018

Today SaskTel announced that the Village of Sceptre is the latest rural community to receive internet service. In addition, SaskTel has also introduced faster internet service in the northern communities of Creighton and Denare Beach. With SaskTel’s interNET Extended service, the residents and businesses in all three communities are now better equipped to take full advantage of all the online opportunities available in the modern world.

“I can confidently say on behalf of the residents of Sceptre, that this is a highly anticipated service,” said Ken Dietz, Deputy Mayor of Sceptre. “We are delighted to be able to experience fast and reliable internet in our homes and businesses.”

There are now two internet packages to choose from in these communities, interNET Extended 5 and interNET Extended 10. interNET Extended 5 offers download speeds up to 5 Megabits per second (Mbps) while interNET Extended 10 offers download speeds up to 10 Mbps.  Both packages include unlimited usage, in-home Wi-Fi, and 24/7 helpdesk support.

“Our government understands that the internet plays a key role in the success of our communities and province,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “I’m very pleased with the strides SaskTel continues to make to ensure that everyone in our province has a fast and reliable internet connection so that they may benefit from the opportunities that lay beyond their doorstep.”

“At SaskTel, we are committed to being the best at connecting our customer’s to their world,” said Doug Burnett, Acting SaskTel President and CEO. “It’s this commitment that continues to drive us to be the leading communications provider in the province today and into the future.”

Using a variety of technologies, SaskTel’s internet networks stretch across Saskatchewan providing service to 99% of the population in the province.  A key component of SaskTel’s internet coverage is the wireline internet network which provides internet service to thousands of families and businesses in more than 450 communities province-wide, making it by far the largest network of its kind in Saskatchewan.

This expansion is part of SaskTel’s commitment to invest $301 million of capital in Saskatchewan in 2018/19 and over $1.4 billion through 2018-2023. These investments will ensure that all Saskatchewan residents continue to receive some of the best communication and entertainment services in the world.
