SaskTel Upgrades Internet in Three Indigenous Communities

SaskTel Upgrades Internet in Three Indigenous Communities

April 16, 2018

The residents of three Saskatchewan Indigenous communities are now enjoying faster High Speed Internet. The communities of Nekaneet First Nation, Poundmaker Cree Nation, and Sweetgrass First Nation have been upgraded to SaskTel's interNET Extended 5 service.

"Our government understands that the internet plays a critical role in today's digital world," said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. "As a result of these upgrades, the residents of these communities are better equipped to take advantage of the economic, social and educational opportunities available today."

All SaskTel High Speed Internet customers in these three communities have been automatically upgraded to interNET Extended 5 with download speeds of up to 5 megabits per second (Mbps), more than triple their previous speed.

"These upgrades further illustrate SaskTel's commitment to provide modern communication services to all residents of our province," said Doug Burnett, Acting SaskTel President and CEO. "Since June 2017, we've brought faster internet service to 27 Indigenous communities in our province and plan to upgrade more communities before the end of 2018."

All SaskTel High Speed Internet packages include unlimited usage, free installation, in-home Wi-Fi, spam and email virus filtering, and 24/7 helpdesk support – all for one low monthly price.

These upgrades are part of SaskTel's commitment to invest $1.4 billion in capital in Saskatchewan through 2016-2021. These Investments will ensure that all Saskatchewan residents will continue to receive some of the best communication and entertainment services in the world.
