SaskTel Nears Completion of Project to Expand Fusion Internet to 34 Towers Serving Rural Saskatchewan
Today SaskTel announced that it has nearly completed a $4.2 million project to expand Fusion Internet to 34 additional towers serving rural Saskatchewan. The project will be completed in April, once SaskTel has equipped the towers that serve the vicinities of Shellbrook, Southey, and Stoughton with Fusion service. See the appendix below for a full list of towers that received Fusion service as part of this project.
“Our government understands that having access to reliable communication services is critical to the success of rural residents,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “That is why our government has made it a key priority to work with SaskTel to enhance the high speed Internet and cellular services in rural Saskatchewan.”
Once the project is complete, SaskTel will operate 102 Fusion equipped towers throughout the province, each tower delivering a reliable high speed Internet connection for rural customers with download speeds up to 10 Megabits per second (Mbps).
“Our vision is to be the best at connecting our customers to their world,” said Doug Burnett, Acting SaskTel President and CEO. “By expanding our Fusion Internet service deeper into rural Saskatchewan we are bringing that vision to life.”
SaskTel’s Fusion expansion project is phase one of the Government of Saskatchewan’s four-phase initiative to provide rural communities with enhanced access to reliable cellular and high speed Internet services.
Minister Morgan added, “As the first phase of our joint initiative with SaskTel comes to a close, the focus will soon shift towards phase two, improving the cellular service in many rural communities throughout the province.”
