SaskTel launches infiNET in Swift Current

April 21, 2015

Today SaskTel announced that they are commercially launching infiNET, SaskTel’s new Fibre Optic Network, to residential areas of Swift Current. In completed areas of the city, SaskTel has already begun to connect SaskTel high speed Internet and maxTV customers to the new network, with all existing and new customers getting the opportunity to sign-up for infiNET once their neighbourhood is converted to fibre.

“This project represents SaskTel’s commitment to keeping Saskatchewan people ahead of the technology curve,” said Minister Responsible for SaskTel, Kevin Doherty. “SaskTel continues to be the only provider in Saskatchewan to deliver a fibre optic connection directly to the customer’s door, enabling customers in fibre serviced areas access to a whole new world of possibilities.”

“We are excited to invest in emerging technology that will enhance our customers’ communication experiences today, while also setting the groundwork for technology enhancements in the future,” said Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “infiNET will future proof SaskTel’s network by providing the capacity to significantly increase speeds and do upgrades over time without the need to replace the fibre.”

infiNET is being deployed through SaskTel’s Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) Program, a ten-year $670 million dollar initiative that will upgrade the broadband network and deploy fibre directly to homes in the established residential (brownfield) area of the nine largest urban centres in the province, Saskatoon, Regina, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Estevan, Swift Current, Yorkton, North Battleford and Prince Albert.  infiNET is also being extended to newly developed (greenfield) residential areas in communities across Saskatchewan where no traditional copper infrastructure exists.  For complete details on infiNET enabled locations, see www.sasktel.com/infinet.

Once connected, infiNET will provide customers access to Saskatchewan’s fastest network, allowing for download speeds of up to 260 Mbps and up to 60 Mbps speeds for uploading, significantly enhancing the customer experience when downloading or streaming video, uploading photos and videos, or participating in real-time gaming.  maxTVTM customers can have up to seven High Definition set-top boxes in one residence, providing new and enhanced possibilities for home entertainment.
