SaskTel We See You, the University of Regina and other partners aim to better the quality of life for African Children
SaskTel’s We See You program and the University of Regina’s Faculty
of Education’s, “Malawi Technical Education Reform Project” have joined
forces, and with the generous donations of SIAST, the Regina Catholic
School Division, the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region and the Ministry of
Health, have collected enough supplies to fill an industrial 40-foot
shipping container destined for Malawi, Africa. The container will be
packed with donations from the various partners, including medical
equipment and supplies, text books and other teaching and learning
supplies, school furniture, and other items that will support a number
of schools in Malawi, as well as the School of Nursing and a local
hospital.
Support to the University of Malawi Polytechnic and the Senga Model Primary School in Malawi are part of an ongoing project implemented by the Faculty of Education with funding provided by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). This is the fifteenth container shipped through the SaskTel We See You Program that focuses on providing assistance to various locations throughout the developing world facing lack of teaching and learning resources as well as disease, war, displacement and other challenges.
“Since 2006, SaskTel has had the opportunity to engage with a variety of partners and businesses around the province through the We See You Program, sending vital medical and educational equipment and supplies to places in the world that lack many of the basic things that we take for granted in Saskatchewan,” said, Ron Styles, SaskTel President and CEO. “Congratulations to everyone involved in this inspiring project.”
“We are very pleased to be partnering with so many excellent organizations to make this a reality,” said Dr. Thomas Chase, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Regina. “Being able to send these materials will make a huge difference in the lives of many Malawians.”
