SaskTel guides the way to making our shared world more sustainable with the release of its 2018/19 CSR Report

November 12, 2019

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is more than just phrase at SaskTel, its part of a constellation of principles that guide the corporation’s activities across every aspect of its business.

With the release of the SaskTel 2018/19 CSR Report, SaskTel continues its industry leading role as an innovator and champion of local communities by holding itself publicly accountable for its CSR goals.

“The corporate social responsibility principles that guide SaskTel have helped them be more effective in providing much needed services to more locations in this province than anyone else,” said the Honourable Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “It’s clear from this report that when strong principles focused on caring for the community and business interests meet at a place like SaskTel, everyone in the province benefits.”

Titled On One Shared World, the 2018/19 CSR Report takes an in-depth look at how SaskTel exercises ethical leadership; the highest of employee standards; environmental stewardship; as well as how the company works to increase access to its products and services while also improving the standard of living in Saskatchewan.

“SaskTel has a long and outstanding tradition of supporting the communities we operate in above and beyond the infrastructure and services we provide,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO. “Over the years, our leadership team and amazing employees have built a culture of giving back that’s made SaskTel and the people powering it an essential part of community events and programs that touch every corner of the province.”

SaskTel’s core CSR programs such as the Community Investment Program have extensive reach and make incredible impacts all over Saskatchewan. In 2018/19 the program provided just under $2.9 million to over 1,000 non-profit and charitable organizations, community associations, venues, and events in more than 200 communities across the province.

In addition to these corporately directed investments, many SaskTel employees have taken it upon themselves to be ambassadors in the communities they call home. In 2018, the almost 4,000 past and present employees who make up the SaskTel Pioneers contributed an impressive 34,925 volunteer hours to a wide range of events, while raising over $236,000 to help fund the Pioneers’ charitable programs and providing additional donations to non-profits province wide.

The SaskTel Pioneers and the Community Investment Program represent just a small fraction of SaskTel’s many CSR activities detailed in the SaskTel 2018/19 CSR Report. In line with SaskTel’s goals regarding environmental stewardship, the report was produced in a digital-first format.
