Brett Cousins holds a RAZ Memory Cell Phone in the Cornwall Centre SaskTel Store.
SaskTel is in the business of keeping all our customers connected. For some, that connection can be a challenge, especially for customers who require something a bit simpler.
SaskTel has recently partnered with a company that makes that simplicity possible.
The company is RAZ Mobility, and the product they offer is the RAZ Memory Cell Phone which offers a solution to keep loved ones connected and safe while helping to retain their independence.
"RAZ takes a phone that we already have on our network (Motorola Play), and they add their software on to it," said Brett Cousins, Marketing Manager – Wireless Devices. "It fills the need for those who may have cognitive or physical challenges, or seniors who prefer simplicity."
The RAZ one-touch dial picture is designed for ease-of-use.
It consists of one primary screen that includes three elements:
- pictures and names of up to twenty-four contacts;
- a button to call 911;
- time and battery power.
There are no applications or settings to cause confusion. No notifications or operating system updates. No voicemail. No distractions. Users simply tap the picture of the person you wish to call.
"Because of the way it's set up, for example if a patient that has dementia or Alzheimer's or memory loss, there is a caregiver app associated to every RAZ device," said Brett. "Through the app, caregivers can remotely manage contacts, settings and other aspects of the phone."
The app, which can be downloaded on to any phone, also features 'loneliness alerts.'
"With this feature, if someone isn't using their device, you can set it so that if they're not receiving any calls, it gives the caregiver an alert as a possible indication that they should check in with them to make sure everything is okay," said Brett.
Other features include location tracking and the ability to set specific quiet hours.
While the product is aimed to more senior customers, it can also be an option for kids as a simple way to stay in touch with parents.
"There has been some demand already for this product, and certainly there's lots of potential here," said Brett. "I think it'll offer some peace of mind for a lot of our customers, and I'm interested to hear some feedback from those who use the product. That will play a role in helping us to decide whether or not it becomes a permanent product in our line up."
