Fatima Coovadia
Dr Fatima Coovadia was born in South Africa and immigrated to Canada as a teenager. She holds a Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) degree and practiced as a dentist in both clinical and academic settings. She then went on to complete a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from the University of Regina. Fatima is the consultant owner of Coovadia Consulting and is the proud mom of three young adults. In 2022, she completed her Corporate Director training and has the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.
Fatima is an ardent advocate of human rights and works diligently within the community to build social cohesion. She is passionate about education and provides learning opportunities for individuals and organizations, exploring themes around racism, identity and social cohesion. She is a certified Skills for Success, Relational Skills and Civility in the Workplace trainer and guides workplaces to developing a culture that is respectful, inclusive, and an enriched environment for all to thrive in. In 2018, Fatima was appointed as a Commissioner with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission and feels immensely privileged to have this opportunity to serve the province in this capacity for six years.
Since 2008, Dr Coovadia has served in various capacities on boards including the Maria Montessori Board of Directors, the Faith Leaders Council at the University of Saskatchewan and the Remai Modern Art Gallery. Currently, Fatima is a Director on the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation and chairs the Governance and Human Resources Committee and is a United Way Saskatoon and Area Board Member. Fatima has been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal and the King Charles III Coronation Medal for her contributions to the Province of Saskatchewan.
Fatima enjoys spending time with the family, travelling, cooking, and learning about other cultures.
