Fern Boutin
Fernand (Fern) Boutin is Senior Director, Operational Risk Management, Potash at Nutrien in Saskatoon. Over Fern’s 23-year career with Nutrien (and formerly Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan), he garnered experience in positions overseeing Business Transformation, Internal Audit and Risk Management, Corporate and Divisional Financial and Cost Accounting, Budgeting and Forecasting, IT System Implementation, Accounts Payable and Receivable Management, Procurement and Warehousing, Payroll and Pension Accounting, and Land Management and Community Engagement.
Fern obtained his Bachelor of Administration degree from the University of Regina, followed by his Chartered Accountant (CPA) designation in 1996 while working with Deloitte & Touche in Regina. There, he served a diversified audit and tax client base in areas of agriculture, telecommunications, industrial equipment sales and service, financial institutions, life insurance, manufacturing, electrical contracting, and oil and gas. He subsequently held positions as Accounting Manager at SaskTel, then Commodity Accountant at Saskatchewan Wheat Pool before relocating to Rocanville to join PotashCorp.
Fern was born and raised on the family mixed farm in Southeast Saskatchewan, and actively farmed until his relocation with PotashCorp to Saskatoon in 2004. Fern currently resides in Corman Park with his wife, Jennifer, and their four children. He is the current Treasurer on the Boards of the Saskatoon Water Polo Club and the Saskatoon Sharks Summer Swim Club, activities his children are actively involved in. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Water Polo Saskatchewan. Fern is involved in his community and is a past Board member of the Saskatoon & Area United Way and the University of Regina Senate. Fern and his family are active parishioners at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, Saskatoon, including serving as past Pastoral Council Chairperson and Member. He is also a member of the Holy Spirit Knights of Columbus. Fern has volunteered his time at various community organizations with his current employer and assisted charities such as the United Way of Saskatoon and STARS in fundraising activities. Fern is a past member of the Nutana Curling Club in Saskatoon when he had time to curl. He had also been an active volunteer in the Saskatchewan communities of Rocanville, Regina, and Alida where he previously called home.
