Today, SaskTel announced it has expanded its 5G network to the Village of Craven, including the grounds that will play host to the Country Thunder music festival later this week. Delivering lightning fast data speeds, SaskTel’s 5G network will bring a new level of wireless connectivity to residents and businesses in Craven, as well as festival goers.

“The launch of SaskTel’s 5G network is great news for Craven and country music fans alike,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “With the power of 5G at their fingertips, concert goers will be able to stay connected like never before, while Craven residents and businesses will benefit from year-round access to one of the most advanced wireless networks in Canada.”

“At SaskTel, we recognize the true potential of 5G and are pleased to bring our new network to Craven,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO. “Being the first community outside of Regina and Saskatoon to receive 5G service, we’re extremely excited to test the network and its capabilities in a unique setting which will help us further develop the technology as we work to expand our 5G network to all corners of the province.”

Powered by Samsung, SaskTel’s 5G network can reach speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) allowing customers to connect faster than ever before. Future benefits of the 5G network once fully deployed will include incredible capacity and ultra-low latency, enabling new use cases for wireless technology that will be the foundation that next-generation innovations will be built upon.

More than a network upgrade, SaskTel 5G will support more data-driven smart solutions for agriculture and other industries that will help to drive economic development and prosperity across the province.

“We’re extremely excited to bring Country Thunder back to Saskatchewan in 2022,” said Kim Blevins, General Manager, Country Thunder Music Festivals. “As we get set to kick things off later this week, it’s great to know that our patrons will have access to SaskTel’s cutting-edge 5G network while they enjoy some of the best country music artists of our time.”

The expansion of 5G service to Craven is a direct result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.5 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years. These investments will ensure Saskatchewan families and businesses continue to have access to some of the best communication and entertainment services available anywhere in the world.

In order to connect to its 5G network, SaskTel customers need to be within a 5G coverage area, have a 5G capable device that is certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network, and subscribe to a 5G compatible wireless plan. For more information, please visit www.sasktel.com/5g.
