SaskTel begins expanding its 5G network to the Battlefords

January 25, 2023

Today, SaskTel announced it has begun rolling out its 5G wireless network in the Battlefords. Delivering ultra-fast data speeds and unparalleled connectivity, SaskTel’s 5G network continues to set a new standard for connectivity in Saskatchewan. Recently launching in the Town of Battleford, SaskTel anticipates the majority of Battleford and North Battleford will have access to its 5G network by this summer.

Saskatchewan people will continue to benefit from some of the best communications technologies and solutions available in the world today, thanks to SaskTel’s ongoing efforts to expand both their 5G wireless and fibre optic broadband networks across the province,” said Don Morgan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel.

“The rapid expansion of our 5G network across Saskatchewan is part of our larger commitment to invest $1.5 billion of capital across the province,” said Doug Burnett, SaskTel President and CEO. “The investments we’re making in 5G and fibre will help accelerate Saskatchewan’s transition to becoming a “smart” province, while ensuring our customers continue to have access to the communications technologies and solutions they need to connect to the world.”

Powered by Samsung, SaskTel’s 5G network can reach speeds of up to 1.2 Gigabits per second (Gbps) allowing customers to connect faster than ever before. Future benefits of the 5G network once fully deployed will include incredible capacity and ultra-low latency, enabling new use cases for wireless technology that will be the foundation that next-generation innovations will be built upon.

More than a network upgrade, SaskTel 5G will support more data-driven smart solutions for agriculture and other industries that will help to drive economic development and prosperity across the province.

In order to connect to its 5G network, SaskTel customers need to be within a 5G coverage area, have a 5G capable device that is certified for use on the SaskTel 5G network, and subscribe to a 5G compatible wireless plan.
