The countdown is on as SaskTel gets set to launch infiNET and bring blazing fast internet speeds to Indian Head, Maple Creek, and Rosetown

October 12, 2023

Today, SaskTel announced it will soon launch SaskTel infiNET™ service in Indian Head, Maple Creek, and Rosetown as a result of the Crown corporation’s $200 million Rural Fibre Initiative. Delivering blazing fast internet speeds, SaskTel’s infiNET service allows customers to access the latest digital tools and technologies to socialize, learn, pursue economic opportunities, connect to healthcare and other government services. SaskTel anticipates select areas in all three communities will be fibre-ready by mid-November.

“Our government understands that technology and innovation will play a key role in growing Saskatchewan’s core economic sectors as well as the growing diversification of our economy,” said Dustin Duncan, Minister Responsible for SaskTel. “I am pleased that SaskTel continues to make strong progress expanding their networks to more communities ensuring Saskatchewan residents are better equipped to compete and succeed in the digital economy and world.”

“Delivering unparalleled speed and reliability, fibre is a complete game changer when it comes to broadband connectivity and we’re thrilled to bring the power of the infiNET network to our customers in Indian Head, Maple Creek, and Rosetown,” said Charlene Gavel, SaskTel President and CEO.

Powered by SaskTel’s fibre optic broadband network, infiNET service delivers internet speeds reaching close to a Gigabit per second (Gbps), allowing subscribers to surf, stream, and share however much content they want at incredible speeds. Plus, the infiNET network has the capacity to grow to support the evolving needs of SaskTel’s customers and increasing popularity of cloud services, video streaming, and smart technologies.

“Thanks to the recent launch of 5G along with the forthcoming launch of SaskTel’s fibre optic broadband network, the people of Rosetown will soon have access to the same communications technologies and tools as those living in much larger centres across the country,” said Trevor Hay, Mayor of Rosetown. “I am thankful to SaskTel for bringing these services to our community and for helping to ensure Rosetown remains a wonderful community to grow a family and business.”

The Rural Fibre Initiative is a multi-phase program that will see SaskTel invest $200 million to bring infiNET service to over 110,000 residents and businesses living and operating in more than 130 rural communities. Once the announced phases of the Rural Fibre Initiative are complete, SaskTel’s infiNET network, which is already Saskatchewan’s largest fibre optic broadband network, will reach approximately 80% of all households in the province.

The continued expansion of its infiNET and 5G networks is a direct result of SaskTel’s commitment to invest more than $1.6 billion of capital across Saskatchewan over the next five years. These investments will help Saskatchewan accelerate its transition to becoming a smart province and ensure it remains one of the most well-connected regions in the country.

Over the coming weeks, SaskTel will contact residents in all three communities to provide information on how and when they can schedule their upgrade to infiNET service.
