maxTV channel simplification

maxTV Channel Simplification

Later in 2026, maxTV will make your TV viewing experience simpler by offering only high‑definition versions of channels that were previously available in both SD and HD.

Why is this change happening?

We’ve improved our networks over the years, allowing us to provide HD to more locations. As well, subscribers have shown a strong preference for HD channels, and SD channel viewing has significantly decreased. By removing the SD versions of channels that are also available in HD, SaskTel can shift focus toward improving other aspects of our TV services.

What do I need to do?

We’ve been contacting our customers who don’t have HD access to let them know the next steps.

We may be able to enable HD for you automatically, or you may require a visit from a SaskTel technician. Depending on your location, switching to our other TV service, maxTV Stream, may be required.

If you’re currently receiving a $5 HD unavailable monthly credit and are eligible to upgrade to HD, the credit will be removed from your bill on May 26.

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have an HD TV. Will I still be able to watch HD channels on my TV?

Yes, you just won't get the full HD resolution you'd get with an HD TV.

After the upgrade, is there anything I need to do before I start watching shows in HD?

Visit sasktel.com/hdsupport for details such as how to set your screen aspect ratio for HD.

Will I lose my PVR recordings because of this upgrade?

We try to upgrade your maxTV service without affecting your recordings. In rare situations, when a technician visit to your home is required, some network changes made can cause a loss of recordings, so we recommend watching recorded shows before the technician appointment as a precaution.

Do I have to upgrade and pay $5 more for HD?

Customers who couldn’t get HD at their address because of technical limitations received a $5/month credit. Now that HD is included with all maxTV subscriptions and your network supports it, the credit will end on May 26, and your subscription price will match the regular price for your plan. If the network is capable of supporting HD, customers do not have the option to disable it to save $5. We only provide that $5 credit if there are technical limitations that prevent us from providing HD.

I was told I needed a SaskTel technician to upgrade my maxTV for HD. But when they arrived, I was told the upgrade couldn't be done. Why did I get the notification letter?

At the time we sent the letter, our records indicated your location was eligible for an upgrade but needed a technician to complete the work. Upgrade eligibility can be affected by various factors that may change daily for a small number of customers. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Will this change also affect maxTV Stream?

No, there are no changes being made to maxTV Stream at this time.
