What is Wi-Fi Calling?

Wi-Fi Calling lets you make and receive calls and send messages anywhere with a Wi-Fi network when there's little or no cell coverage.

What do I need to use Wi-Fi Calling?

You’ll need a compatible device and an eligible wireless plan:

  • Currently, Wi-Fi Calling is available on Apple iPhones (with iOS 15.1 or higher), Apple Watches (with watchOS 8.1 or higher) and select Samsung Galaxy phones (with Android 14 or higher).
  • Current postpaid wireless plans that include unlimited calling in Canada are eligible for Wi-Fi Calling. Not available to customers with fusion Internet service.

How do I use Wi-Fi Calling?

Once you’ve enabled Wi-Fi Calling on your compatible device, when there is little or no cellular signal available and you're connected to a Wi-Fi network, your phone will use Wi-Fi for calls and messages. The status bar will display “SaskTel Wi-Fi” when Wi-Fi Calling is available. See Setting up Wi-Fi Calling on your iPhone or Setting up Wi-Fi Calling on a Samsung Galaxy phone for instructions.

To use Wi-Fi Calling, VoLTE must be turned on within the network settings of your device. Wi-Fi Calling cannot be used outside of Canada.

How much does it cost?

Wi-Fi Calling is included in compatible rate plans. There’s no additional cost for Wi-Fi Calling. Your standard wireless rates will apply, including any pay-per-use services and international calling rates. Additional fees may by charged by the Internet Service Provider supplying the Wi-Fi you’re connecting to.

Important 9-1-1 limitations on Wi-Fi

If you call 9-1-1 while in Wi-Fi Calling mode, your phone will try to place the call over the cellular network. If there is no cellular coverage, your phone will try to make the call over Wi-Fi and will provide the 9-1-1 call center with the 9-1-1 address you provided during your Wi-Fi Calling setup process. If the location of your emergency is different than this address, you’ll need to provide the 9-1-1 call center with your location. See Changing your emergency address for Wi-Fi Calling.

See Wi-Fi Calling Terms of Service for important information about using this service, including 9-1-1 limitations.
